Complete tutorial for "Measurement" Function

The measurement function is one of the most core functions of the PDFBlueprint.

You can measure lengths, areas, angles, radius and quantities.

Once the measurements are complete, you can also use the "Tabulate" to summarize and organize them.

Let's see the detailed tutorial:


1. First of all, make sure your computer has installed PDFBlueprint, if not yet installed, please download the installation package from the official website and install it.

2. Open a drawing in PDF format that needs to be measured.

3. Click on the "Settings" button in the menu bar. Enter the "Comment Settings" dialog box. You can set the current comment color, font size, line width, area unit, and display precision of numbers. Among them, the current comment color, font size, line width will be in the memory of this computer.

4. Set Scale

Click the "Scale" button. Left-click to specify two points of a line segment of known length on the drawing that is as long as possible. Then enter the actual lengths of the line segment in the dialog box. and then start measuring. This way the scale is set and you can start working on the measurement.

Note:

  • You can set the scale more accurately by clicking on the capture points (center point (), point on the line (), end point (), and intersection point (×)).
  • PDF drawings converted from CAD can capture points on the drawing. Scanned PDF drawings cannot capture points.

5. Measurement

Click the "Measure" button. In the "Measure" panel, you can click on the measurement function you want to use.

  • Linear: You can measure the vertical distance and horizontal distance between two points.
  • Aligned: Measures the length of any line on a drawing by clicking on the start and end points of the line segment.
  • Continuous: Measure the lengths of multiple line segments consecutively and sum them up.
  • Arc: Measure the arc length of an arc in the drawing.
  • Perpend: Select a point and a line to measure the perpendicular distance from the point to the line.
  • Rectangle: Measure the area of a rectangle by clicking on two points on the diagonal of the rectangle.
  • Polygon: The area can be measured by measuring the line segments or arcs point by point to form a closed area.
  • Auto Fill: Shaped areas can be quickly filled to measure the area.
  • Count: By setting the color and counting shapes for the graphics that need to be counted quantity by clicking on the label one by one, after finishing, mouse over one of the labels can get the quantity.
  • Angle: Measure the angle between two lines that intersect or do not intersect.
  • Radius: Measures the radius of a circle in a drawing.

Note: When using any measurement function, there is always a prompt information below the menu bar. Measurement based on prompted information will be more efficient.

6. Tabulate

Click on "Tabulate" button, you can count the length, area, and quantity on a certain page or pages of PDF charts to get the total length, total area, and total quantity.

You can also filter according to the set color of the comment and export measurement records to Excel.

7. Delete Measurement Comment

  • Click on "Delete" button first, then click on the "Erase Comment" Function button below. Then click on the individual comment to delete it.
  • Click on "Delete" button first, then click on the "Clear All Comment" Function button below. Click OK in the prompt window to remove all comments in this PDF.

8. Hide/Show Comment

You can temporarily hide all comments by clicking "Hide Comment" in the bottom right corner of the software, and click "Show Comment" to show them back again.

9. Save Comment

Click the "Save" button in the upper left corner and the annotations on the PDF will be saved into the PDF.
